JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Provides the Right Tools For PREMIUM ALLIED TOOL & THE HINES GROUP
Company Overview
 Founded
in 1966, Premium Allied Tool (PAT) has become world
renowned for its ability to produce some of the
world's most challenging components. PAT excels in
the production of high-quality metal stampings with
tolerances often held in microns. They also produce
a number wire-forms and strip-forms as brackets and
springs. Premium Allied Tool has earned a worldwide
reputation as the leader in both quality and
technical superiority..
Challenges Faced
Premium Allied Tool (PAT) is the largest division of
The Hines Group. PAT needed to move off of several
non-integrated legacy systems and needed to
eliminate redundancy. It was necessary to cut down
on the labor required to get the correct data to
make decisions. Premium Allied Tool also required
thin clients, capable of running multiple sites and
multiple branches. The Hines Group needed a way to
manage multiple divisions and to eventually run all
three companies on one system.
The Solution
Faced with these requirements, the Hines Group
looked at several top tier packages. They also
reviewed the Gartner Group reports, which placed JD
Edwards in the top right quadrant, indicating
strength of vision as well as exceptional ability to
execute. They chose
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Software and
CD
Group and began the implementation in July of 2000.
The CD Group project leader worked with the PAT
project leader to develop a plan and a recipe for
success. PAT was motivated to learn JD Edwards in
house and took ownership as quickly and completely
as possible. This complete knowledge of the system
has allowed PAT to leverage JD Edwards as much as
possible, as opposed to adding complementary
packages.
At the beginning of each major phase, CD Group
consultants would assist in the process workshops
and system design. CD Group provided consultants to
work with Premium Allied Tool to set up, test and
implement the Financial (General Ledger,
Accounts
Payable, and Accounts Receivable) and the
Distribution (Procurement, Inventory Management, and
Sales Order Processing) modules, and the appropriate
Manufacturing (Product Data Management, Shop Floor
Control, MRP, and MPS) modules. In addition, CD
Group assisted with the implementation of the
Payroll & HR Benefits modules.
Benefits Realized
 After
going live and in the months to follow, Premium
Allied Tool has become a signature account in its
use of the JD Edwards solution. They have benefited
from a much more lean way of working in all areas.
Jobs that were once manual, are automated. For
example, when the order is shipped, all appropriate
paperwork that must accompany that order is
automatically produced for the shipping department.
Also, as the Purchase Order advances to a particular
status, this triggers an automatic e-mail to the
supplier. Likewise there are several automated shop
floor transactions such as work order completion and
inventory transfers. This implementation and the
associated enhancements translate into fewer errors
and significantly reduced processing time. Overall,
through its selection of JD Edwards, its partnership
with CD Group, and Premium Allied Tool’s dedication
to learning and owning the implementation, PAT has
become a signature account which continues to add
functionality while becoming leaner in the process.
